Massage (Tui Na) 按摩
Chinese massage therapy is a medical therapy with various practical manipulations applied to certain locations on the body to prevent and /or treat illness. Clinical trials have proved that Chinese massage has an effect on blood component, oxygen in local tissue, peripheral vessels and endorphins in the blood.
Our massage therapy consists of two types:
- Treatment massage – for pain or injury
- Healthcare Massage – whole body massage including head and reflexology.
Our doctors cover the area to be massaged with a clean sheet instead of using oil.
In treatment massage the techniques used help to invigorate the flow of blood and energy in the meridian and muscle channels. This helps to clear any blockages which linger and cause pain and loss of function (ie muscle spasm, inflammation).
This form of massage is a holistic massage:
- treating the local area where the dysfunction is located;
- treating a distal area which will invigorate the flow of energy and blood through the problem area.
This deep tissue massage helps to remove adhesion and blockages while stimulating the movement of qi and blood to heal the condition.
In healthcare massage the idea is to stimulate and promote the flow of blood and energy in the whole body to allow the body’s internal organs to stay in balance which each other and the four limbs. This is done by stimulating flow in all the channels of the body, hands, feet and head, because these are all the important areas where channels join. It has the function of improving the immune system, promoting smooth circulation and stress relief. As a regular health maintenance regime it keeps your body in good shape and good health. When people get up after a healthcare massage there is a feeling of relaxation and lightness in the whole body.

Chinese Herbs 中药
Chinese raw herbs have a history of use over 2000 years and there are over 400 commonly used variants of herbs.
Individual herbs often have more than one function. Herbal formulas are the combination of various herbs with various functions. Individual cases will determine the combination of herbs.
The Chinese raw herbs, pills or powders are taken internally or applied external as a wash or poultice. They are an effective, non-addictive, form of treatment that treats the root causes of diseases, not just the symptoms. Each formula will be tailored for individual needs and may need to be changed frequently as symptoms alter. For acute conditions, herbal medicine is usually taken daily for three days up to a few weeks and with more chronic conditions usually requiring months.
In the past the process of preparing the herbal decoctions has been an inconvenience. At TCMA Clinic we have prepared decocted herbs that are vacuum packaged and ready to drink. Commonly used formulas are also available in pills.

The number of needles varies from two to fifteen and they are left in place for approximately fifteen to thirty minutes.
